Champions' Advice for Rookie Competitors

After 13 years of competition, only 4 Quad Champions have emerged.  What was their secret?  For the first time ever the magnanimous former champions offered the following advice to 2012 rookies:

Doug:  "The most important thing about the quad is winning. It's not family and friends, its winners and losers. If you keep your head in the game and a beer in your mouth you might just have the chance to become the 5th black jacket winner in Quad history."

Johnny: "Four things:
       1) Always watch Fred (He cheats a lot)
       2) Don't listen to Des. (He's never won the Quad.)
       3) Don't be like Mark. (Shilstone His Dad most be so disappointed.)
       4) Have A Great Time!!!!"

Bart:  "Focus on your own game.  Don't spend time trying to keep an eye on who you think may or may not be cheating....especially me.  Seriously, look away."

Fred*: "Invite a a good friend to participate in the Quad, then make sure you match-up with him in any head-to-head events like pool.  This strategy only works once per friend, however, as they tend to end up banned for life from the Quad afterwards.  Maybe try inviting two friends, like a certain Bilbo I know....."

* Suspected of collusion in the 2001 event.
